If you were old enough to comprehend the things that were happening, what was going through your head during those days?

My father worked for a certain government 'agency' at the time and things were very tense at our house. Tense enough for the installation of a red phone next to his bed with a list of the people he was to call if things indeed appeared to be going nuclear. Obviously there were other phones like this that had our name on their lists too. I also remember us being issued documents to allow us through any police or military checkpoints that might have been set up.
It was really weird knowing that we were to get to a hardened relocation site as quickly as possible when things boiled oer and I would have had to leave all my friends behind. I was also pretty damn sur that we'd probably never make it and I'd be incinerated along with everyone else.
Wow, Sculpey. Must have been pretty damn scary. I really didn't comprehend how severe the whole thing was until I was in my teens - a good 12 years after it happened. I just remember my dad in the early 70's saying that I would most likely not die of natural causes - but more likely it would in a nuclear exchange.
Very powerful... Sculpey.
